Polysomnographic Tech

Prepares adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and equipment for sleep disorders testing. Monitors the polysomnogram and documents per policy.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Arrives to work in a timely manner.  Reviews the activity list for the nights duties and patients. Reviews assigned patient charts, greets patients, completes appropriate paperwork and pre-test assessment. Applies recording sensors, acclimatizes patient to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) if applicable, and performs pre-recording calibration. Monitors the recording during the evening per protocol including documentation and interventions as needed. Ends the recording per protocol, completes appropriate post-study documentation, removal of sensors and cleanup as needed. Scores polysomnograms as needed and prepares report for dictation.  Assists in training, orientation and competency assessments as needed.

REQUIRED:

Must possess good written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated expertise in sleep disorders, sleep activity, abnormalities, movement arousals, and respirations. One (1) year experience in sleep study activity. Current American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support Certification (BLS). Must possess current and unrestricted certification or registration in one of the following: Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
