POLYSOMNOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGIST
JOB SUMMARY
The Polysomnographic Technologist provides sleep care services to patients in accordance with the provider’s direction and established protocols to independently perform Polysomnograms (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance Wakefulness Test (MWT), and Unattended Sleep Studies. Must acquire and maintain special technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality patient care.
SCHEDULE
Tuesday and Wednesday nights, 6:30pm to 7am.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited polysomnographic technology program.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: One year experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Certified Respiratory Technician (CRT), Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (END), or Polysomnographic Technologist.
Preferred/Optional: Two years’ experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) as a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT). Basic Life Support (BLS) awarded by the American Heart Association.

JOB SUMMARY
The Polysomnographic Technician provides sleep care services to patients in accordance with the provider’s direction and established protocols to perform Polysomnograms (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), Maintenance Wakefulness Tests (MWT), and Unattended Sleep Studies. Must acquire and maintain special technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality patient care. A Polysomnographic Technician will stay in this status until they can fulfill the entire job functions listed below independently and are registered in polysomnography.
During the time that the technician is not registered in polysomnography and unable to work independently, they will work under the supervision of a registered Polysomnographic Technologist. If a supervising technologist is unavailable, the technician may need to be utilized in a different role.

Graduate of or currently enrolled in a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited polysomnographic technology program OR
Graduate of or currently enrolled in a CAAHEP accredited electroneurodiagnostic or respiratory care program with a polysomnographic add-on program OR
Able to Qualify under any of the Eligible Pathways as defined by the BRPT for RPSGT Exam Eligibility.
Preferred/Optional: Associate degree with emphasis in polysomnography, respiratory care or electroneurodiagnostic technology.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: None
Preferred/Optional: Previous experience as a Polysomnographic Technician or two years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, Certified Respiratory Technician, or Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist.
