LOCATION Positions available at both Meadows Park Pool and The Swim & Racquet Center SCHEDULE Must be available to work at least two full shifts (7:00 am - 5:15 pm) and one-half shift (5–6-hour day) per week. 20 - 25 hours per week Varied hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: Performs responsible protective service work insuring the safe use of the City's public swimming facilities by pool visitors and aids troubled bathers in emergencies; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Functions + Maintains discipline at a swimming pool facility. + Observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules and pool rules. + Provides emergency lifesaving services to swimmers in need. + Maintains proper chemical balance of pool water; takes water samples and adds chemical when needed. + Adjusts and maintains pool filtration systems and pool chemical feeding systems. + Gives swimming instructions to individuals or groups. + Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. RELATED TASKS: + Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular schedule. + Meets and greets patrons; resolves conflicts; explains pool rules, regulations, and policies. + Performs pool opening and closing procedures. + Performs extensive pool maintenance activities, including handling of pool chemicals. + Takes part in training programs to improve lifeguarding skills. + Registers instruction program participants. + Sells pool permits; closes out and balances cash register and prepares deposit. + Assists with special events. + Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: + water safety rules and of lifesaving and first aid practices and techniques. + cleaning and maintenance requirements for large pools and related equipment and supplies. Skilled in: + Considerable skill in and strength in swimming, Ability to: + maintain chemical balance of pool water. + work safely with toxic chemicals. + enforce rules and to remain calm under stress. + clean and maintain a swimming pool and related facilities. + Maintain all required certifications. + pass American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Oxygen Administration class during first year of employment. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: + Possession of a High School diploma or valid equivalent. + Demonstrated excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES: + Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross, Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: + Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period. + Essential employee during declared storm emergency. + Abstained from the use of cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products for at least one year prior to their date of hire and shall abstain from the use of tobacco products at all times during the period of their employment with the City while both on and off duty. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have 20/30 corrected vision in both eyes, correct color vision and depth perception. Must be able to lift and carry articles weighing up to 50 lbs. and push articles weighing up to 150 lbs. Must be able to wear safety glasses, goggles, safety harness, respirator, safety shoes, gloves, apron, and face shield. Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Exposure to electricity, heights of up to 15 ft., noise, moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, vibration, dust, vapors, fumes, poisons, animals/insects, mist, gases, irritants, asphyxiates, and bloodborne pathogens. CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY Part-Time Employees ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment. MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
