New Porgera Limited (NPL) has an immediate position vacancy within the Underground Maintenance Section of the Mobile Maintenance Department for a Trade Assistant – Underground Mechanical. Reporting to the Supervisor – Underground Mechanical, the successful candidate will be required to assist the Tradesperson in a trainee capacity to carry out their duties in a safe and efficient manner, performing the following duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Trade Assistant, you will:

To assist with repairs and maintenance of machinery and mechanical components on any equipment supported by the section Work in a manner that will not endanger self or any other person Identifying the risks in their work area and using the correct controls Attend specific work area inductions and are aware of all workplace rules and procedures Be aware and capable of working safe and promote a safe working environment (personal safety and housekeeping) Be aware and adhere to standard environmental practices covering all areas from storage of oil, disposal of rubbish to handling wastewater Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant PJV policies & Procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will need:

Minimum of Grade ten (10) or above level of education, preferably with some Basic Technical Skills To have completed Job Ready Program or Trade Assistant program, Level 1 – Level 3 A minimum of 2–3-year experience in Trade Technical areas.  Good level of numeracy & literacy skills  Ability to work in a multi–cultural environment Able to work under minimum supervision  Flexible to learn and adapt to changes in the department The capacity to work 12 hours shifts (day and night shifts) Must have an up-to-date police clearance certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
