POSITION: Porter 

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage 

REPORTS TO: Stewarding Supervisor/Exec/Sous Chef 

FLSA STATUS: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Across our portfolio of live event venues and corporate offices, we are looking for a Porter in the F & B department at the Broward County Convention Center. This position assist in all activities relating to food & beverage porter service for facility events to ensure that food is served promptly. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in all areas of the Convention Center. 

Assist with collecting and cleaning all banquet equipment. 

Assist with storing deliveries ensuring all items are put in the proper place, rotated correctly, and are wrapped, labeled, and dated.   

Ensure all storage areas are always clean and kept in proper condition according to company standards. 

Anticipate guests’ needs, responding in a quick, friendly, and efficient manner.  

Assist in pre and post event set up and breakdown duties. 

Moves product and/or perform work in various areas within the building. 

Moves ice, food, and beverage equipment to appropriate areas. 

Cleans spills, help stock shelves, and pull stock, as necessary. 

Other duties as assigned.  

 

Education and/or Experience           

High School degree/GED or equivalent is required.  

At least two (2) years of experience in a Food & Beverage environment. 

 

Skills and Abilities   

Must be familiar with and follow all property standard operating procedures, policies, and regulations.  

Must understand and practice the concept of teamwork. 

Strong ability to work with other staff members in the facility. 

Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks. 

Position is very hands on with excessive interaction with staff. 

Ability to follow directions and effectively perform the work. 

Must have attention to detail and good organizational skills. 

Must have ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide. 

Must have strong customer service and interpersonal skills. 

Must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands, frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. 

Must speak English and be able to understand instructions and guest requests.

This position requires stooping and lifting. Substantial standing, walking, and pushing and or pulling of equipment. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. to the waist. 

Daily lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. up to 10 minutes at a time. 

Reaching, standing, walking, and stooping regularly. 

Performing work through repetitive eye/hand coordination. 

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
