Portfolio Accountant 
POAH Communities, an exciting and highly entrepreneurial organization committed to quality management of affordable rental housing, is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Portfolio Accountant.  The individual will work from our Kansas City office and will be responsible for the accounting, financial reporting and cash management of a group of properties in the POAH Communities portfolio.   RESPONSIBILITIES Execute the financial and operational objectives established by the company and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws is maintained. Assist with the preparation of annual property budgets and meet additional annual goals as determined by the Accounting Manager and the VP of Finance and Accounting. Assist site staff in meeting respective budgets. Assist with set-up of work papers and Yardi database for newly acquired properties. Devote the majority of his/her time in delivering monthly operational and corporate accounting information. Prepare monthly accounting reports and associated work papers for assigned properties by the 15th  day of the following month, or as instructed. Complete bank reconciliations. Prepare requests for reimbursement from capital expenditure reserves. Prepare work product for public auditing firms and work effectively with the auditors to produce high quality information. Provide a high degree of customer service to POAH Communities colleagues and ensure that all of the accounting and related processing work is done with efficiency, timeliness and integrity. Seek opportunities to enhance communications and build collaborative relationships with supervisors, peers, subordinates and residents. Prepare for and attend regular meetings with the property management staff to present detailed reports on portfolio status. Alert management of any irregularities or issues Complete other tasks assigned by the Accounting Manager/VP of Finance and Accounting. Maintain knowledge of current accounting practices and legal updates. Other related tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), project finance, and rental subsidy programs Bachelor’s degree preferred 3 years of experience in accounting or finance preferred Accounting experience in real estate or affordable housing preferred Ability to work with a sense of urgency Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality and accuracy Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Excellent customer service skills Strong administrative and data management skills Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and Adobe or similar Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting software (Yardi) Periodic overtime may be required   BENEFITS AT POAH COMMUNITIES At POAH Communities, we prioritize the well-being of our employees and their families.
