General Requirements:
The Post-Doctoral Fellowship is a continuing one-year assignment for a maximum of two years.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The Department of Environmental and Geosciences seeks to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on an NSF CAREER grant to Dr. David Moss. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in research, including museum and field work, and mentor undergraduate students. The option to cover specific topics in courses taught by the supervisor will also be provided so that the candidate can obtain feedback on teaching.
The funded grant seeks to answer questions related to longevity using both modern and fossil bivalves and seeks to answer three questions: 1) is lifespan a heritable trait 2) can body size trends be explained by changes in life history strategy and 3) how do latitudinal life history gradients change in alternate climate settings? While the post-doc will contribute to all questions, the primary responsibilities of the post-doc will be to focus on the phylogenetic and lifespan analysis of fossil Glycymerids. In addition, the post-doc will help facilitate four planned teacher workshops during their tenure. The PI will develop three of these workshops independently and the post-doc will be responsible for designing and leading one of the workshops. In addition, the post-doc will be encouraged to help lead tours of K-12 students of the SHSU Natural History Collections.

Educational Requirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences/Geology/Paleobiology or Biology. The successful candidate shall have a proven record with respect to publication history. Areas of emphasis include paleobiology, sclerochronology, and/or phylogenetics.
Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):
A successful candidate will have a proven track record in publishing scholarly work related to paleobiology and/or sclerochronology. The successful candidate shall have a strong desire to mentor undergraduate students.
