Summary of Job Duties:The Alge laboratory, based at UAMS and the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute, seeks a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher to pursue basic and translational research investigating the role of uremic toxins in chronic kidney disease pathophysiology with a focus on the effects mediated by the aryl hydrocarbon receptor on the renal and cardiovascular systems. The successful applicant will be responsible for identifying mechanistic pathways involved in the progression of chronic kidney disease and cardiomyopathy and will be expected to work effectively both independently or in a team environment and influence project planning and grant writing. This is an initial one-year appointment, but renewable based on funding availability and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
Qualifications:
Ph.D degree in biomedical sciences, toxicology, pathology, or related required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated expertise with DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, immunoblotting, microscopy, and mouse husbandry.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of standard genomics, proteomics, and metabolomic workflows and bioinformatic pipelines, and software tools used to analyze and interpret large scale, multi-omic datasets will be advantageous.

Responsibilities:
Perform cell culture and in vitro assays to investigate the effects of uremic toxins on kidney cell lines.
Utilize molecular biology techniques, including extraction of DNA, RNA, and protein extractions, PCR, RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, and immunoblotting.
Prepare samples for transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and microbiome analysis.
Prepare bioinformatic analysis of omic data, including RNAseq, proteomic, metabolomic, and microbiome.
Perform mouse husbandry and routine procedures, including tail snipping, ear tagging, collection of urine and blood, and necropsy.
Optimize mouse models of acute and chronic kidney disease.
Keep accurate and timely records of experimental procedures
Perform data processing, analysis, charting/graphing, and presentation as directed by Principal Investigator (PI)
Perform literature searches to find research information on related procedures and previous studies.
Prepare manuscripts.
Present research findings at scientific meetings and conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
