Post-Doctoral Fellow Professor of Strategy and Security Studies
Summary The Air University (AU) invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Post-Doctoral fellow of Strategy and Security Studies. The incumbent will teach, conduct independent research activities, mentor students, conduct service and will be responsible for carrying out supporting learning activities to achieve organizational outcomes. This position reports to the Air University Chief Academic Officer. Responsibilities Teach Graduate-level Courses. Teaches graduate-level courses based on terminal degree specialty and advises student research. Designs course requirements and instructional methodologies; produces approved syllabi; teaches in the classroom; designs, administers, and grades student evaluations; provides detailed feedback to students and documentation of student progress. Serves as subject matter expert and advisor to AU and the respective school/centers on subjects of relevance. Advises students in areas appropriate to expertise and interests. Guides students through the research process including developing appropriate research questions, performing research in primary source materials, organizing and constructing the thesis arguments and composing the formal document. Conduct Research and Writing. Conducts research in relevant source material on matters relevant to the Department of the Air Force (DAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and the security of the United States. Actively seeks publication of book manuscripts as well as scholarly works such as articles, monographs, and book reviews for publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, professional journals and other outlets. Presents results of research at appropriate conferences and symposia. Supervises and advises student research in course work, research projects and professional studies papers. Performs Service Activities in Support of University Goals and Objectives. Performs service activities such as curriculum review, awards programs, graduation ceremonies, letters of recommendation, accreditation self-study, etc. Participates with other professional organizations, AF/DoD institutions, universities and colleges for professional development. Delivers lectures, conducts seminars, participates in professional activities related to the curriculum. Maintain academic currency by participating in appropriate professional associations, as well as consistently ensuring appropriate academic support to AU organizations as teaching and school-related duties allow or at the direction of the Commandant. Commitment to contributing service to the department, the college and the university. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Ability to guide graduate-level research in relevant source material and guide students to cogent arguments based on the findings. Ability to write and edit to publishable scholarly standards. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness in academic programs. The ability to deal with sensitive issues in a professional manner. Knowledge of functions, structure, and operations of an accredited, graduate-level academic organization. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and mentor students from various disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. Education An earned doctorate degree or another appropriate terminal degree in a field relevant to national security from an accredited postsecondary institution is required.
