Position Purpose:
The Q-Center Fellow is a critical position supporting the Q-Center Director and several key elements of Center programming and operations, including one-on-one tutoring, tutor resource development, and point of contact for last-minute tutor questions/concerns. The Fellow is needed to provide consistent oversight of the Center during evening hours, maintaining an inclusive, student-centered environment and ensuring that academic support operations run effectively during the busy evening tutor sessions.
Core Responsibilities:
Answer subject-specific questions from tutors and students, especially during high-demand evening periods or when particularly challenging problems arise. In this vein, the ASI will serve more generally as a “super tutor,” assisting students in their subject area who need enhanced academic support, above what undergraduate peer tutors can provide. Collaborate with faculty, tutors, and Q-Center Director to develop and improve tutoring materials, worksheets, and guides in ASI’s area of expertise. This work would be informed by feedback ASI brings back from observing and working with tutors/students in the evenings. Prepare the Q-Center space for evening sessions by ensuring tables, signage, and supplies are properly set up; coordinate any last-minute changes to session schedules and tutor availability. Maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment for students and tutors, providing them guidance on spaces and materials reserved for them, and reminding tutors of the tasks required of them during their sessions and afterwards. Oversee evening tutoring sessions to maintain appropriate tutor-to-student ratios and adjust seating as needed to ensure there is sufficient space. Serve as accessible, responsible, primary point of contact for addressing any challenges/issues that arise during the evening sessions. Track participation trends in tutor sessions by analyzing data, monitoring exam schedules, and observing usage patterns, and make recommendations to the Center Director for improving services as needed; provide back-up support for tutors with questions about reporting session details in LibCal system.
