Postdoc Research Associate

The Myles H. Thaler Center for AIDS and Human Retrovirus Research within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on projects investigating post-transcriptional gene regulation in mammalian cells and viruses.

Under the supervision of Drs. Marie- Louise Hammarskjold and David Rekosh, the incumbent will participate in laboratory projects involving a combination of microbiology, cell biology and molecular biology. A large component of the project will involve analyzing RNASeq data using various pipelines on the UVA high performance computer.

Preferred skills include

bioinformatic experience analyzing RNASeq data.Proficiency in a computing language, such as Pythonexperience in molecular biology, including but not limited to lentivirus transduction of mammalian cellsexperience with flow cytometryexperience in cell culture and sterile microbiology techniquesaccuracy and attention to detailswork concurrently on several projects and meet deadlinesdemonstrated initiative in decision-making and problem solvingcomputer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint),excellent written and verbal communication skillsself-motivation and eager to acquire new skills

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree in Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or related field.Ability to work in a collaborative environment.Willingness to mentor junior members of the laboratoryWillingness to apply for independent funding
