Postdoctoral Appointee: Nuclear Chemical Separations Modeling
The Postdoctoral Appointee will be part of an R&D group conducting use-inspired research supporting the development of technologies for nuclear separations at the nexus of nuclear energy and national security. With guidance, the appointee will: + Develop chemical models and codes for designing processes and equipment for chemical separations + Provide modeling and simulation support for experimental work involving nuclear-relevant and other industrial separations including the development of multimodal process monitoring and control technologies + Develop flowsheets and process diagrams for separations processes including nuclear-relevant as well as other industrial chemical operations + Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, prepare technical reports for sponsors, and attend and make presentations at scientific meetings + Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and Laboratory management through status updates, technical research reports, project presentations, and other regular channels. **Position Requirements** + Knowledge of general principles of chemistry and/or chemical engineering is required. + Skill in modeling, processing, and analyzing computational results to inform accompanying experimental efforts. + Skill in the use of modern coding technologies + Demonstrated knowledge regarding nuclear-relevant separations approaches such as solvent extraction and other chemical techniques is desired. + Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. + Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork. + Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive. + Work conducted under this posting will require the appointee to obtain a security clearance To perform the essential functions of this position, successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contracts.
