Postdoctoral Appointee – Electrocatalysis for Carbon Management
We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within Argonne National Laboratory's Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE). In this role you will: + Design, synthesize, and evaluate next-generation electrocatalysts for CO2 conversion to value-added chemicals using chemical and physical synthesis techniques combined with half-cell electrochemical methods, such as rotating disk electrode and H-cell, as well as full-cell electrolyzers. + Perform catalyst structural characterization using conventional analyses such as XRD, BET, XRF, SEM, TEM. + Knowledge and skill of using advanced characterization tools such as synchrotron-based X-ray absorption and scattering methods is a plus, but not a requirement. + Work closely with staff in accelerating catalyst design, synthesis and optimization using high-throughput platforms. + Collaborate with computational modeling and technology economic analysis staff across Argonne lab in developing AI/ML methods for CO2RR catalysts and electrolyzer material design. + Prepare reports and oral presentations on project progress. **Position Requirements** + This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, material science, or chemical engineering at the Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 5 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application and practical laboratory experience + Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of electrocatalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction and/or oxygen evolution and reduction reactions + Knowledge of and experimental expertise in evaluating electrocatalysts using RDE, RRDE, H-cell methods, as well as testing in a full electrolyzer + Knowledge of and experimental expertise in laboratory material characterization methods + Excellent written and oral communication skills with internal team and external sponsors + Knowledge of the synthesis and preparation of structured porous materials such as metal-organic frameworks and/or porous organic polymers is a plus + Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork **Job Family** Postdoctoral Family **Job Profile** Postdoctoral Appointee **Worker Type** Long-Term (Fixed Term) **Time Type** Full time _As an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
