Postdoctoral Appointee – Wetland Ecosystem Science
Argonne National Laboratory
The Environmental Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join a project aimed at improving model representations of carbon cycling and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial wetlands.
In this role you can expect to:
+ Conduct studies to measure and partition wetland fluxes of greenhouse gases (GHG) at a site located in the Prairie Pothole region to constrain and upscale GHG emissions in this region
+ Identify carbon sources and pathways that contribute to carbon dioxide and methane emissions using 13C and 14C isotopic techniques
+ Work onsite and collaborate with biogeochemists and computational scientists to analyze physicochemical and microbial measurements of soils and evaluate plant physiological data to enhance representations of wetland carbon dynamics in models
+ Present results at scientific meetings and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications
+ Travel to the field site in North Dakota on occasion and when needed

**Position Requirements**
+ A recent Ph.D. (typically completed within 0-5 years) in wetland ecosystem science, wetland ecology, terrestrial biogeochemistry, soil science, ecohydrology, or a related field
+ Knowledge of wetland ecosystem science, including hydrological and biotic factors and processes that affect wetland carbon dynamics
+ Experience with relevant instrumentation and methodologies, such as flux chambers, CO2 / CH4 sensors/analyzers, gas sampling, and/or water sampling
+ Experience and an interest in soil processes, plant physiology, plant traits, and species composition
+ Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in R or Python coding, and/or machine learning techniques
+ Excellent writing and oral communication skills
+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate activities of technical support personnel and undergraduate interns
