Postdoctoral Appointee - MSD Atomic Memory for Microelectronics
The Materials Science Division (MSD) at Argonne National Lab (ANL) is looking for an experimental postdoctoral candidate to conduct fundamental research in the areas of optically addressable atomic memory for microelectronics. This project is focused on exploring nonradiative resonant energy transfer between atoms-trap defects in oxides as a new platform to explore how optical selection rules are modified at the near field and how such a new system can enable optically addressable atomic memory with ultrahigh storage density. The successful candidate will be part of a highly collaborative research team that focuses on materials for classical microelectronic interfaces and quantum information science. The group actively interacts with the broader Argonne and UChicago community of scientists as well as external collaborators. The candidate should have a strong background in experimental physics and/or relevant engineering field. The postdocs will carry out optical characterization of oxide film with targeted atoms-trap defects pairs to study the dynamics of near field transfer. The candidate will study how near field interactions affect the atoms’ spin property. The postdocs will work with other team members on the experiment sides and also work closely with our theory collaborators to establish “read” and “write” of information using this optically addressable atomic memory. The candidate is expected to maintain a current knowledge of the latest development in the field and will also participate in maintaining technical reports and other documents associated with the project, along with reports on experimental progress, technical developments, and new initiatives. **Position Requirements** Minimum Education / Experience Requirements: + A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, applied physics, physics, or related field.
