Recruitment/Posting Title Postdoctoral Associate Department CABM Salary Commensurate With Experience Posting Summary The Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM), in collaboration with PI’s at the Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) and various other departments, is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Associate.

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct specialized research on a collaborative project on the origin, evolution and construction of proteins that transfer electrons (i.e., oxidoreductases). It is expected that the Postdoctoral Associate will have expertise in several of the following areas including bioinformatics, bioinorganic chemistry, structural biology, microbial genomics, biogeochemistry, molecular evolution, and synthetic organic chemistry that will allow the design of interdisciplinary experiments to test origins of life questions. The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to participate in the configuration and maintenance of instrumentation necessary for conduct of the project. It is expected that research will lead to publications and the Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to prepare manuscripts as well as contribute to the preparation of grant and fellowship applications. The Postdoctoral Associates will also be expected to be highly collaborative and train and mentor undergraduates in scientific research projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1) Computer simulations of protein structure and computational protein design of small peptides and proteins.2) Synthesizes and characterizes peptide and protein designs.3) Structural and functional characterization of designs.4) Trains and mentors undergraduates in scientific research projects.5) Participates in scientific meetings within the NASA Astrobiology Institute and national and international scientific meetings.6) Coordinates multi-investigator and multi-institution collaborative interactions regarding the project.7) Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’ regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.8) Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards, SEBS’s Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.9) Performs other related duties as assigned.
