**Required Qualifications:** (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Physics or a closely related in field in hand by the start of the appointment. The candidate must be an experimentalist and a published author within the field of relativistic heavy ion collisions. Computing experience in C , python, git, and the CERN analysis package root. The candidate must be intimately familiar with the operation of large experiments (more than 100 people) and thereby the processes of software development and data analysis within large teams of people.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Hands-on experience with gas detector devices, preferably using GEM, microMEGAS, micro R-WELL, or other MPGD detector technology. Experience working with or mentoring graduate students. Personal experience working with the Fun4All analysis package.
**Brief Description of Duties:**
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Axel Drees (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/physics/people/\_profiles/dreesa) in the department of Physics and Astronomy (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/physics/index.php) . The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
The Stony Brook University Relativistic Heavy Ion Group seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow to work on research specifically related to the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) and data analysis for the sPHENIX experiment. The successful candidate will be expected to work on maintenance of the TPC, development of software analysis tools for sPHENIXS data, and analysis of sPHENIX data producing publishable results. It is anticipated that the candidate will work closely with faculty and students in the group towards these goals. The candidate will also have the option of working within the SBU Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS) (https://www.stonybrook.edu/cfns/) on work related to the future electron-Ion Collider (EIC) (https://www.bnl.gov/eic/) .

● Graduate Student Mentoring
● Independent Research Efforts (e.g. Detector R&D, EIC-related Studies, other)
● Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
