**Required Qualifications:** (as evidenced by an attached resume/CV)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, or a closely related field by January 2025. First Authored Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Drug delivery formulations (e.g., micro/nanoparticles, polymer coatings/matrices, and hydrogels).
+ Cell culture and animal work techniques, including flow cytometry, qPCR, tissue harvest and processing, and other techniques as needed.
+ Polymer synthesis and characterization (e.g., bioconjugation, free-radical polymerization, GPC, and 1 H-NMR).
+ In Vivo Imaging System (IVIS), fluorescence microscopy, and bright field microscopy.
**Brief Description of Duties:**
The Postdoctoral Associate will join an innovative and collaborative research team led by Dr. Sufeng Zhang (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=yl-PxsIAAAAJ&hl=en) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (https://www.stonybrook.edu/bme/) at Stony Brook University, New York’s top-ranked public university. The Biomedical Engineering department is jointly administered by the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS (https://www.stonybrook.edu/ceas/) ) and the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM (https://renaissance.stonybrookmedicine.edu/) ), offering a unique environment that integrates engineering innovation with medical expertise.
The Zhang Lab is situated on the east campus of Stony Brook University, on the 7th floor of the Basic Sciences Towers in the Health Sciences Center. We are dedicated to advancing treatments for disease and supporting the growth of future scientific leaders. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Zhang and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians from diverse fields. We are a diverse group working with interdisciplinary collaborators and provide a supportive, team-based training environment engaging in ongoing collaborations across Stony Brook and beyond.
The Postdoctoral Associate will lead a project focused on developing drug delivery systems to treat chronic inflammation and promote gut healing. The role involves conducting research while ensuring compliance with all relevant Stony Brook University policies and procedures.
We seek a highly self-motivated and organized individual to work on interdisciplinary collaborative projects in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University. This work is supported by research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health. The project focuses on developing novel biomaterials in research and translational settings to better treat inflammatory conditions in the digestive system, particularly inflammatory bowel disease.
The Postdoctoral Associate will work on biomaterials-based drug delivery systems to promote healing in the gut. The ideal candidate will have a background in biomedical engineering and immunology research and expertise in animal experiments. Preferred experience includes biological analysis (qPCR, ELISA, etc.), analytical quantifications (HPLC, LCMS, etc.), or spectroscopic methods ( 1 H-NMR, UV-Vis, etc.).

**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Independently perform research activities, including synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles; formulation and characterization of hydrogels; drug release studies; preclinical evaluation of delivery systems, including efficacy studies, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity assessments in relevant animal models.
+ Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of experimental procedures and results.
+ Analyze and summarize research findings for scientific presentations, publications, and reports.
+ Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians.
+ Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and assist with grant writing as needed.
+ Ensure compliance with IACUC/IRB protocols and maintain updated documentation.
**General Responsibilities:**
+ Contribute to the maintenance of lab operations, including equipment upkeep and supply management.
+ Conduct literature reviews and apply specialized skills in data collection and analysis.
+ Present research findings at scientific conferences and meetings.
+ Other duties as assigned.
