Postdoctoral Fellow - Genetics (Vaishnavi Lab)
MD Anderson
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Genetics under the direct supervision of Dr. Vaishnavi. Our research focuses on studying the molecular and biological processes governing the development of cancer, the basis for environmental exposures and the development of cancer and improving the therapeutic responses for lung cancer. We are working towards producing discoveries leading to better methods of early cancer detection, improved cancer patient care and new cancer drug development.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The range of our research includes cancer drug and biomarker development, tissue culture models, molecular biology, tissue histology, cancer gene discovery, lung biology and development of genetically engineered mouse models to study human cancers. Will need to handle various experimental techniques required for a molecular biology experimental setup. Will need to handle mice in order to understand some mechanisms for research purposes. Trainees are provided with consistent mentorship and access to resources to ensure success. Trainees will have opportunities to present their work at national meetings and attend educational seminars. Collaboration with, and contribution to, other projects in the lab is encouraged.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree with strong research interests. Qualified individuals will have a background in molecular biology, genetics, and expertise in the design and execution of in vivo experiments. Will use shared imaging tools needed for multiple quantifications of the results. Will be trained to perform specialized mouse exposures or related techniques.
