Postdoctoral Fellow - Hematopathology (Loghavi Lab)
The main goal of this postdoctoral position is to work in a multidisciplinary research hematopathology team, focused on pathology projects designed to improve our understanding of hematological cancers. The postdoctoral fellow will develop scientific projects, analyze and interpret data, manage data and communicate the scientific findings at informal and formal meetings, assist in the writing of grant proposals and preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-review journals.

Under the tutelage of a pathologist, the postdoctoral fellow will review and annotate pathology blocks/slides of hematologic cancers. The fellow will also assist in obtaining pathology blocks, maintaining a database regarding these specimens and perform or organize various studies utilizing various methods applied to these specimens. This includes immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, polymerase chain reaction-based methods, flow cytometry data and digital pathology-based methods of analysis.

Program Description:
Develop and perform scientific research projects on hematologic cancers, with a focus on myeloid malignancies. Independently plan and execute scientific experiments, including unsupervised troubleshooting and evaluation of experimental results. Carry out data analysis and create graphs for publications using excel, R, and other statistical software programs. Currently, myelodysplastic neoplasms and acute myeloid leukemias are active projects, but these projects will likely evolve or change over the time interval the post-doctoral fellow is on board. Collect, annotate, archive, and process biospecimens from ongoing clinical research studies.

• The trainee will acquire skills in the statistical analysis of pathology data.

• The trainee will support more senior pathologists and develop research projects independently.

• The trainee will learn aspects of hematological cancer research undertaken in a hospital/research institute.

• The trainee will acquire skills for progression in academia including but not limited to delivering presentations.

• The trainee will prepare experimental reports to include rationale for improvements on established experimental methods and/or improvements in experimental design.

• The trainee will present data in informal laboratory and more formal academic pathology meetings along with faculty mentor.

• The trainee will participate in departmental education activities.

• The trainee will develop new technologies and assays in lines with laboratory goals aimed at expanding the depth and scope of research initiatives.
