The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on addiction studies in Dr. Wendy Lynch’s laboratory. The Lynch Lab uses behavioral, pharmacological, and molecular techniques to delineate the neurobiological basis of addiction, with particular interest in determining the biological basis of sex differences in vulnerability to addiction. The incumbent will perform experiments which utilize rat models of addiction and support the goals of the lab under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree, preferably a PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or biological sciences by the appointment start date. Extensive (3+ years) research experience is preferred. The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for experimental research and have excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience in at least two of these areas is preferred: addiction research, behavioral research, neuropharmacology, surgery, Western blotting/qPCR/RNA-sequencing, and bioinformatics. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel is strongly preferred.
Postdoctoral employment is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a doctoral degree within the previous five years. This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal (for an additional two, one-year increments) contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
