Job Description
Job Responsibilities
-Conduct molecular dynamic (MD) simulations of the interactions of biological toxins including alpha-toxin, pyocyanin, and pyoverdine with clay natural and modified smectite, sepiolite, and layered double hydroxide.
-Summarize the MD data to find the optimal mineralogy properties need to maximize the binding efficiencies of the minerals for the toxins.
-Summarize findings as manuscripts for publications.
-Help with proposal development to federal agencies and industry to continue the work of seeking antibiotic alternatives. -Collaborate with and support other project members on clay-related characterization (XRD, FTIR, SEM, TGA, and TEM).
-Help with lab management: reporting, ordering, maintenance.
Required Education
-PhD in clay science or similar disciplines
Preferred Experience
-Demonstrated good understanding of mineral structures and surface reactions as in publications or presentations.
-Training in molecular simulations.
-Strong background/understanding of physical chemistry concepts
-Previous experience on molecular simulation related to clay minerals.
Required skills, knowledge or abilities
-Strong communication skills and presentation skills.
-Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
