Postdoctoral Research Associate - Chemical Biology & Therapeutics
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Cupido. The Cupido Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate Position to study the role of RNA-based processes in shaping cancer genomes. In particular, the candidate will investigate the molecular link(s) between the functions of fundamental RNA-based machines and the regulation of gene transcription through genome editing, next-generation sequencing, and chemical and molecular biology approaches. Recent studies have shown that RNA-based processes are key to nuclear organization and genome function, yet their mechanisms remain markedly less understood compared to DNA-templated activities. Additionally, large-scale functional genomics efforts have demonstrated that RNA-dependent molecular machines specifically contribute to aberrant gene transcription programs in cancer cells. This presents opportunities for transformative discoveries in cancer biology and therapeutics. The lab focuses on developing and applying novel chemical biology approaches to examine and target molecular mechanisms underlying cancer genome re-wiring. Our approaches are highly interdisciplinary, integrating chemistry with structural, biochemical, and cell biology techniques. Position Responsibilities: The successful candidate will help lead the research and will use functional genomics and cell biological studies to discover and characterize the roles of Ribonucleoprotein machines in regulating gene expression. Prerequisites include creativity, dedication, and the ability to work collaboratively in a small group. The candidate will also regularly collaborate with trainees and staff scientists in partner laboratories within a highly interdisciplinary environment that supports career development. Minimum Education and/or Training: The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, computational biology, or a related discipline. The candidate must demonstrate an academic record of excellence and a strong interest in cancer genome organization and function. Experience with next-generation sequencing and quantitative cellular and molecular biology techniques is required to capitalize on the opportunities of this project. Interest in extending the candidate's skill set into chemical biology and microscopy would be advantageous. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has a diverse, global patient population and workforce, built on the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. Our founder Danny Thomas envisioned a hospital that would treat children of the world—regardless of race, religion or a family’s ability to pay. Learn more about our history and commitment. Today, we continue the mission to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. As we accelerate this progress globally, we believe our legacy of diversity, equity and inclusion is foundational to success. With the commitment of leaders at all levels of the organization, we strive to ensure the St. Jude culture, leadership approaches and talent processes are equitable and culturally responsive.
