Job Description

The Department of Neuroscience at Tarleton State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate, with a focus on investigating the neural processing of pain. The successful candidate will work in the Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychophysiology research laboratory led by Dr. Amber Harris Bozer, which investigates the neural processing of the multidimensional nature of pain. We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a background in dolorology who preferably has experience working with electroencephalography.

This is a full-time position located on Tarleton's main campus at Stephenville, Texas and is a renewable twelve-month appointment with a maximum appointment of three years. This is a non-faculty research staff appointment. Must have the ability to work remotely at the request of the university in times of inclement weather or other special circumstances.

Job Duties:

Conduct all phases of the research process including but not limited to study design, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of findings (abstracts, presentations, manuscripts).

Collect data including methods such as survey, EEG, behavioral paradigms, and cognitive assays for ongoing research as well as novel research.

Train and mentor undergraduate students. Dr. Harris Bozer is a dedicated mentor who values student success and places it at the forefront of lab priorities.

Assist with the development of new grant applications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate by clear, concise, accurate oral and written means of expression.

Ability to independently assess and implement laboratory methods and interpret results.

A successful record of authorship on peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

Ability to be proactive, highly organized, and responsible with a strong work ethic.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology (with a focus in Neuroscience), Biology, Computational Neuroscience, or closely related field from an accredited university.

Fundamental knowledge, formal training, and demonstrated enthusiasm for the field of dolorology.

Experience working in a collaborative team environment and maintaining strong professional relationships.

Demonstrated ability to manage and complete complex projects.

Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

Experience with data analysis with statistical software such as R, SPSS, JASP, etc. and figure generation software (i.e. PRISM or SigmaPlot).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience collecting electroencephalogram data (preferably with the MagStim EGI system).

Experience analyzing EEG data (especially coherence and current dipole analysis).

The successful candidate will have earned a PhD or equivalent research doctorate at the time of appointment; will have received their doctoral degree no more than 4 years before the start of the financial support; and will be able to begin employment at Tarleton State University in 2025. If the degree has not been conferred at the time applicant applies for the postdoctoral scholar position, a letter needs to be attached from their school's Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements for the degree have been met and stating the degree conferral date.

The selected candidate for the position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment, be able to communicate effectively in English, and be trained in or able to obtain training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The annual salary is $60,000 based on funding availability in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
