Postdoctoral Research Position in Behavioral Science related to Insurance

**Job Description:**
The Center for Insurance Policy and Research (CIPR) at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is seeking applicants postdoctoral research position in behavioral science related to insurance. **This is a full-time/temporary position with preference for a candidate to work out of Kansas City, MO, USA, potential consideration for New York City or Washington, DC offices. The position is one year with the possibility of extending for an additional year based on first year evaluation.**
CIPR seeks a behavioral science researcher who examines and analyzes human behavior to understand the psychological, social, and environmental factors that influence decision-making. We seek applicants with experience in decision science and/or behavioral science, data analytics, the development and analysis of surveys and experiments, and the ability to apply behavioral science theory and methods to real-world issues. Candidates should have a background in quantitative methods, and we prefer candidates who are also familiar with qualitative analysis and mixed methods approaches to research. Research experience and/or interests should be related to one or more of the following insurance issues: health and long-term care; natural catastrophe/climate and resiliency; artificial intelligence and big data; data privacy and cyber risk; and socioeconomic and demographic disparities.
Applied research utilizing these skills will help inform state insurance regulators and NAIC staff on key insurance issues of concern, with an emphasis on leveraging available NAIC data for the research where applicable, and/or primary data. A clear and concise presentation of research results in various formats is expected.
Candidates should also be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Post-doctoral fellows spend a significant amount of their time on CIPR research projects, working with the CIPR research team, and other NAIC staff. Additionally, postdoctoral researchers have the flexibility and time to pursue their own related research interests. CIPR researchers and postdocs maintain strong ties with academia and external research centers.
**Minimum requirements**
Applicants must have a Ph.D. (expected completion by the summer of 2025 is acceptable) from an accredited institution in a related field such as behavioral science, decision science, economics, or risk management and insurance within the past two years. Incomplete applications will not be considered. **_We plan to undertake first-round interviews by February 2025._**

**Tentative Start date**
August – October 2025
**Compensation**
$80,000 - $83,500, commensurate with education and experience.
