Posting Number: 20231040F Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher - College of Engineering Position Type: Faculty Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Department: 986-Center for Human-Environmental Systems Position Summary: Villanova University has a postdoctoral researcher position available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Center for Human Environmental Systems under the supervision of Dr. Wenqing Xu.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will conduct research on a multidisciplinary research project to understand the adsorption and transformation of nitrogenous organic contaminants on the surfaces of pyrogenic carbonaceous materials (eg., activated carbon and biochar). The candidate will have opportunities to interact with collaborators from other academic institutions, state, and federal agencies. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the training and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, assisting with the preparation of project reports, and disseminating results in journal publications and conferences. Teaching opportunities can be arranged if the candidate desires. Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have: a Ph.D. degree in environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, polymer engineering, or related fields; experience in using analytical instruments (IC, UPLC, GC/MS/MS and Q-TOF-MS); experience in material synthesis, surface functionalization, and characterization (FT-IR, XPS, TEM); a strong track record of refereed journal publications; and the ability to work independently and communicate proactively. The individual must be highly motivated with strong written and oral communication skills.
