**Job Description**
Seeking a passionate Postdoctoral Researcher to work in NREL’s Commercial Vehicle Team in the Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences. Working closely with a team of researchers at NREL and within cross-cutting research partnerships, the Postdoc will contribute to multiple projects related to freight transportation mobility improvements for movement of goods, new transport modes, decarbonized vehicle technologies, and energy implications. The effort includes 1) development and improvement of software tools for modeling of regional and national multi-modal (truck, rail, and water) freight transportation systems, 2) application of the model to quantify the mobility and energy implications of emerging freight transportation technologies to help decarbonize the freight transport systems, 3) analysis to inform strategic decisions facing policy makers, federal agencies, and industry. Utilizing the modeling tools, we will translate analysis results into effective and influential communication products tailored to multiple clients’ requests and audience requirements. This position may include the following additional activities:
+ Understand regional and/or national freight transportation systems and corresponding energy systems to identify decarbonization pathways.
+ Identify and work with relevant datasets to characterize current and future changes in freight movements and associated energy consumption
+ Work towards development of a scalable, distributed, and data-driven freight simulation model including truck-based regional freight generation and/or nation-wide multi- and inter-modal freight movement
+ Refine existing models and/or develop new models for freight simulation software tools
+ Deliver quality products that synthesize external literature, data analyses, and modeling results
+ Publish research findings in peer-reviewed papers and/or high-quality technical reports
+ Present results to external audiences
