The Vollum Institute is a privately endowed research institute at Oregon Health & Science University dedicated to basic research that will lead to new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases. Vollum scientists have broad-ranging interests that coalesce around molecular neurobiology and cellular physiology. Their work has transformed the field of neuroscience and, in particular, have provided important advances in the study of synaptic transmission, neuronal development, neurotransmitter transporters, ion channels and the neurobiology of disease.

Function/Duties of Position Independently design, implement and perform experiments and data analysis; consistently provide intellectual contributions to the PI’s group. Experimental details pertaining to collection and processing tissue to look at expression of different genes of interest. Determining in vivo contribution of these genes to dorsal root ganglion neurons using electrophysiology and cellular assays.Assist with training research assistant and graduate students in the lab on projects related to TMEM63 channel function determination. Additional guidance will be provided to members in the lab that are using western blots, immunohistochemistry, and, microscopy. Manuscript preparation of the projects that the candidate works on. The candidate will also assist the PI in writing grant applications on projects that are based on in vivo function of TMEM63A/B in different physiological processes. There is also expectation of traveling to national and international meetings to present findings related to the project that the candidate is working on. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in relevant field of study (Neuroscience, Cell Biology or Mammalian Physiology) 4 years of experience with Immunohistochemistry, electrophysiology, and Image analysis.
