WCRC includes the Grand Valley Research Station ( WCRC -GV) which is located 15 miles northwest of Grand Junction. With an average growing season of 175 days at an elevation of 4500 ft, the reasonably deep loam soils at this location have been the home of the bulk of agronomic research conducted at the WCRC . GV focuses on the efficient use of water in a variety of agronomic crops. The Orchard Mesa location ( WCRC -OM) is 7 miles southeast of Grand Junction. Site elevation is approximately 4750 feet with an average growing season of 182 frost-free days. The research conducted at this site includes tree fruits, wine grape production, and ornamental horticulture. OM is also the primary site utilized by the Community Alliance for Education and Hunger Relief, an initiative that engages the broader western Colorado community and provides fruit and produce free to local hunger relief agencies. As a 100% certified organic research center, the Rogers Mesa location ( WCRC -RM) serves as a nationwide knowledge hub for organic agriculture in arid climates. Located near Hotchkiss, CO at 5,800 feet, the 80-acre property has 30 irrigated acres, a climate-controlled greenhouse, and equipment and infrastructure to support fruit tree orchards, grape vineyards, perennial pasture, and vegetable production. Research topics include ecological pest and disease management, variety and rootstock trials, and regional adaptation of annual crops. Position Summary Colorado State University and the Western Colorado Research Center- Grand Valley ( WCRC -GV) seeks a Postdoctoral Scientist to conduct on-station and on-farm trials of alfalfa and alfalfa mixtures under restricted irrigation in Western Colorado and Utah. This Postdoc will collect data, including soil and plant samples from research sites and analyze data to prepare draft research articles. The Postdoc will be based in Fruita, CO. The climate and landscape are high desert in nature with four seasons but relatively mild weather. The surrounding area offers a wealth of outdoor activities for every season, including hiking, biking, rafting, skiing, and golf. This position will support the USDA - NIFA project by: + Conducting on-station and on-farm trials in Colorado and Utah + Collecting plant and soil samples, data compilation and analysis + Participating in project activities and interdisciplinary training + Publishing results in peer review publications and Extension bulletins + Communicating project results at conferences and broader impact events. Required Job Qualifications + PhD in Agronomy, Soil Science or related field + Experience in conducting agronomic experiments + Proficiency in data analysis + Demonstrated publication skills + Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
