HDR is looking for a Power and Energy Advisor to be part of our nationally ranked Power, Technology Advisory Services groups which are active in the Energy, Power and Technology (Data Centers, Chip Manufacturing, etc.) markets. The Leader will work with our national Power and Technology practice Leaders to serve existing and develop new clients globally.

Primary Responsibilities:
The primary duties of thePower and Energy Advisor will involve supporting HDR services in the escalating power demand market through advisory services. In particular, helping utilities, developers, and large demand customers (data centers, manufacturing, etc.) navigate constraints for obtaining reliable, clean, and affordable power and supporting infrastructure (gas, fiber, land, water, etc.). Responsibilities for this position will include internal and external client and business development, market penetration strategy development and implementation, and serving as a technical consultant and/or client/project manager for strategic projects primarily in system interconnection, on-site power solutions, and clean energy deployment.
The candidate will be a bridge between power suppliers (IOU’s, IPP’s, developers, etc.) and large power demand clients seeking speed to market, clean, and reliable power infrastructure. The position will be supported by a deep bench of client managers and subject matter experts but must be well versed in the existing power markets.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Identify, support, and pursue opportunities to deliver a variety of HDR services to power suppliers and technology clients including but not limited to consulting, advisory services, owners engineering, due diligence, and planning. Responsible for assisting clients with the formulation, assessment, and implementation plans of power systems and portfolios ranging from microgrid scale to large scale utility systems including grid interconnection.Serve as Project Manager for key strategic and diligence endeavors and be responsible for the coordination, quality, and timely completion of projects or programs.Leader should be capable of helping clients think strategically about how they acquire, supply, and consume power including contracting and potential funding and financing alternatives. Coordinate the involvement and input of multi-discipline planning teams involving those with expertise in power delivery, generation, engineering, project controls, environmental permitting, site assessments, project economics, and risk assessment.Participation in internal planning meetings to identify target markets and clients. In collaboration with others, develop strategic and tactical plan for the nexus of power, water, and technology. Establishment and maintenance of client relationships and involvement with marketing, contractual, and development meetings. Candidate should be able to recognize other HDR services and activities outside of core development services that would benefit clients.Participation in reviews with applicable internal and external project stakeholders including client legal and commercial teams, third party developers, connecting utilities, regulatory agencies, and supporting public engagement.Perform other duties as needed – it is desired that Leader have a specific interest in helping clients navigate processes and solve problems, regardless of the specific content.Present at industry and client events to support HDR brand awareness.Preferred Qualifications:
15 years of experience including 3 years in a development role in the power and/or technology industry, specifically with power market and interconnection experience.Demonstrated ability to establish new business relationships and closing business. Knowledge of the electric power system, market participants, energy contracts and transactions, project finance, and distributed generation technologies.Understanding of policy and financial drivers for the energy market.Must have client development and management skills with a strong ability to maintain a high standard of quality.Travel will consist of 25% - 35% of time and ability to travel both domestic and internationally are a must.Advisory Services requires gaining knowledge of new subjects, markets, and trends. Candidate needs to be curious and have the passion to continue learning. Expertise in power market and nexus between power and technology with rapid deployment requirements.Experience supporting large demand customers such as data centers with infrastructure development.Preferred experience working with a variety of client types including regulated and non-regulated utilities, Independent Power Producers, municipalities, and other public and private clients.Familiar with current industry trends such as the implications of growing electric vehicle adoption, aggregation of behind-the-meter resources, distributed energy resources, energy storage applications, and increasing renewable energy implementation on existing utility infrastructure.Participant in industry professional organizations, publications, and conferences.LI-MB1
