Power Delivery Design Technician

Primary Responsibilities

As a Power Delivery Design Technician you will provide drafting and/or engineering support for all technical aspects associated with the conceptual and detailed design of electric utility transmission, distribution, substation and telecom projects, which may encompass the following:

Conducting site visits, surveys, and inspections.Performing engineering calculations, analyses, and evaluations.Developing design options and identifying solutions.Providing engineering input on specific design issues and questions.Developing project cost estimates and schedules.Applying relevant codes, standards, regulations and specifications in executing design tasks.As applicable, being responsible for facilitating and coordinating non-engineering components of projects, including public involvement, permitting, right of way acquisition, construction management, client customer engagement, and other services.Preparing, coordinating and issuing construction packages including plan and profile drawings, structure assemblies and details, schematic drawings, single and three-phase wiring diagrams, bills of material, construction notes, and other applicable details.Reserving stock and/or procuring materials and equipment for installation.Reviewing applications for joint-pole attachments and preparing related make ready work cost estimates and designs.Depending on your experience:providing guidance to less-experienced team members;performing quality control checks and reviews for work performed by others; andworking with local practice leadership to identify and implement learning opportunities for other team members through such methods as job shadowing, “show and tell”, lunch-and-learns, and general knowledge sharing.Participating in client stakeholder meetings.Performing construction observation and preparing as-built record documents.Effectively managing multiple tasks for multiple projects while being cognizant of schedule and budget.

Preferred Qualifications:

Industry experience in the planning, design, and project management of electric utility infrastructure projects, such as pole replacements, reconductoring, overhead to underground conversions, voltage conversions, service installations, and equipment replacements and upgrades, working either for a consulting firm, contractor, or utility.Proficient using computer-aided drafting software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD, and complementary design tools such as Bluebeam Revu.Experience performing structure/pole loading analysis, using O-Calc Pro, SpidaCalc, Pole Foreman, or similar software.A working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).Excellent communication skills.Strong client and interpersonal skills.Required Qualifications
Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experienceA minimum of 10 years related industry experienceAdvanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure. Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination toolsCompetency of Microsoft Office products and communication toolsAdvanced understanding of engineering or architectural conceptsKnowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specificationsExcellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits are essentialLeadership and mentoring skillsets required

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
