HDR Engineering is looking for a Power Delivery Engineering Team Lead to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Western Canada.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Power Delivery Engineering Team Lead in a newly established Power Delivery practice in Western Canada you’ll draw upon your broad technical knowledge and experience in design and construction of high voltage transmission, substation, system protection, and/or distribution projects to lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams across Canada, while also supporting teams across the United States. Having previously performed a leading technical role on increasingly complex power delivery projects, you’ll be ready to undertake greater challenges and responsibilities. You will develop a partnership with the Project Managers (PM), whereas the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and overall client management, you will be responsible for technical execution of the projects. The Power Delivery Engineering Team Lead is also responsible for hiring, developing, and supervision of power delivery teams of junior-, mid-, and senior-level engineers, technicians, and/or project support staff.

Specific duties include:

Develops a partnership with a PM, whereas the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, and the EM/TL is responsible for leading the technical team and execution of the project deliverables.Provide technical leadership to ensure projects have appropriate staff assigned and that the finished product meets or exceeds client expectations.Supervise and continue to grow power delivery engineering teams and provide oversight over workload, quality, utilization, team morale, training, and performing annual performance reviews of team members.Develops and implements a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.Assigns project tasks and provides technical guidance to project team members.Supports the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.Works with local area and practice leadership to hire, mentor, train, and/or supervise a team of Project Engineers, EIT’s, or CADD/Designers.Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world class quality product to the client. Performs quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis. Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.Works with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.May also assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.Participates in project reviews as needed.Encourage and participate in emerging technologies, i.e. IEC-61850, smart drawings, and process automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

8 years of power delivery technical design experience with high voltage electrical distribution, transmission, switchyard, and substation projects of varying complexity up to 500 kV in Canada preferred, including at a minimum, conceptual knowledge of substation physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, and knowledge of CSA, IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards.5 years of engineering management, project execution, and program management-related experience within transmission, substation, and distribution is required.Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers, and project and production staff.Experience using industry standard design software required.· Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Teams, etc.). Previous consulting firm experience desired.Previous experience managing and hiring staff is preferred.Previous staff supervision experience preferred.P.Eng licensure considered an asset.Required Qualifications

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) The pay range for Vancouver, BC is $129,000-$184,000.
