We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks an Engineer II/III with a strong Electrical Power Systems background to join the Power Generation Engineering Group in support of our Non-Nuclear Power Generation fleet.
 

The fleet consists of conventional fossil, simple and combined cycle, hydro, wind, and solar, with support of the upcoming offshore wind and battery storage efforts aligned with the Virginia Clean Economy Act (CEA). The team’s responsibilities are broad and encompass every aspect of the generation fleet’s electrical program, including low and medium voltage distribution, electrical relay protection, electrical equipment diagnostics, root cause analysis, fault analysis, and more. This support includes, but is not limited to the following functions:
 

Perform power systems analysis (Short circuit, load flow, overcurrent coordination, and arc flash analysis) as needed in support of plant capital projects, as well as daily operations. Develop and maintain electrical system models to support such studies. Provide technical support and identify process improvement opportunities based on incident investigations, root cause analysis, and industry best practices. Support fleet wide compliance efforts with NERC Modeling, Data and Analysis (MOD), Protection and Control (PRC), and Facilities Design, Connections and Maintenance (FAC) standards. Perform protective relay settings calculations; develop logic diagrams and other documentation as needed to ensure adequate protection of Generators, Transformers, Motors, Buses, and other major plant equipment. Evaluate design of new/proposed generation and/or the impact of changes to existing plant electrical distribution systems. Perform unit uprate suitability studies. Oversee electrical equipment installation and provide commissioning support of electrical equipment, such as Switchgear, Transformers, and Motors. Provide Market and Plant operations technical support and unit/system operational limit recommendations. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.


Relocation assistance can be provided to the successful eligible candidate.  Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

 

Engineer II:
•    3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
•    Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.
•    Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position.
•    Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality, and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.
•    Planning, organizational, and project management skills.
•    Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
•    Effective decision-making skills.
•    Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
 

Engineer III: 
•    Minimum 6 years engineering experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A relevant Master's degree will count to up to one year of experience).
•    Extensive experience with IEEE, NEC, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
•    Extensive experience with, and knowledge of medium voltage (up to 35 kV) & low voltage (up to 600 VAC) power plant and/or heavy industrial distribution systems including utility scale generators, substations, switchgear, transformers, panel boards, grounding systems, capacitor banks, etc.
•    Proven ability to perform fault analysis calculations.
•    Familiarity with computer simulation software tools (ETAP, PSS/E, PSLF, MATHCAD, etc.).
•    Protective relay coordination experience.
•    Significant experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications.
•    Familiar with NERC Reliability Standards.
•    Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.
•    Planning, organizational, and project management skills.
•    Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
•    Effective decision-making skills.
•    Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
•    Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
•    Skilled in the use of a computer and related applications/programs including office software such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

•    Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external company contacts.
•    Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
•    Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
•    Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Bachelor's degree in engineering required (master's degree in engineering preferred)
 

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 

 For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 
•    Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 
 
•    Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or 
 
•    Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 
 
•    Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 
 
•    Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
