UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure, and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability, and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.
Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations has an outstanding opportunity for a **Power Plant Electrician - High Voltage** to perform operating and maintenance work on the University of Washington electrical distribution system on the Seattle campus.
**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**
• Troubleshoot, maintain, operate, and repair underground distribution systems, including voltage transformers, switches, circuit breakers, and other related equipment and apparatus;
• Monitor and operate current converters, voltage transformers and circuit breakers to control and regulate the flow of electricity; isolate and route electrical currents as necessary for maintenance and repair;
• Maintain and keep records of current clearances;
• Prepare high voltage systems to be worked on by contractors, including de-energizing high voltage equipment, installing protective grounds, issuing line clearances, and monitoring procedures utilized by contractors;
• Splice various types of high voltage multiphase power cable; perform straight splices, joints for branch lines, and fittings for terminal connections;
• Install, connect, operate and maintain a variety of electrical equipment including primary power distribution/transmission cables and equipment, portable engine generators, transformers, and high voltage switches
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical failures relating to high voltage power cables, transformers, breakers, and other equipment;
• Troubleshoot, test, calibrate and repair protective relay systems in high voltage substations; prepares and implements test plans;
• Maintain and update high voltage electrical distribution system drawings and schematics;
• Perform duties in accordance with safety standards and procedures outlined in WAC 296-45;
• Perform other duties as assigned

**Requirements include:**
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a lineworker or equivalent
• AND two years working with 2,000 volt or higher electrical equipment at full journey level status OR Equivalent education/experience
**Additional Requirements include:**
• Experience working with Washington State safety rules and regulations pursuant to WAC 296 Chapter 45 or equivalent.
• Possess excellent customer service skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
**Desired:**
• Five or more years of experience working with high voltage utility distribution systems.
• Experience in the splicing of lead covered cables.
• Demonstrated ability to work with clients for scheduling utility shutdowns and inconveniences.
**Conditions of Employment:**
• Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job.
• A valid driver’s license recognized by the State of Washington is required.
• Must be able to respond to system emergencies during regular business hours and outside of regular business hours.
• Have knowledge and understand of safe work practices and policies.
• Must be able to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
• Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
• Must be a strong team player with the ability to communicate appropriately with clients.
• The position requires working with asbestos containing electrical equipment using appropriate safety procedures.
• The position requires the wearing of other personal protective equipment appropriate to the job task.
• Accomplishment of work requires access to confined spaces and heights using appropriate safety procedures.
• Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
