Power System Engineer (US)
Siemens Energy
**A Snapshot of Your Day**
Due to the energy transition and the introduction of more renewable energy sources into the US power grid, the increased demand for reactive power, inertia, and frequency stabilizing current contribution is necessary for the safe operation of the AC (alternating current) transmission grid.
With this expanding need for Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS), we are seeking a system engineer for the design of STATCOM applications with active power storage for FACTS projects. As a Power System Engineer, you will be technically responsible within the team of experts for the design and dimensioning of the main components of a STACOM system. These components include the transformer, power converter, and the storage system.
_Preferred work location: Raleigh, North Carolina_
**How You’ll Make an Impact**
+ Evaluating project requirements and calculation of technical parameters for the design and rating of the main equipment in the project.
+ Analyzing potential interactions between STATCOM installations and the transmission grid.
+ Developing and validating calculation tools (Matlab) and simulation models for EMT simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC).
+ Conducting trainings and presenting design results to customers.
+ Supporting tender and project management with technical expertise in discussions and customer meetings.
+ Coordinating with external partners and sub-suppliers, and improving standardization of tools, procedures, methods, and processes globally.
**What You Bring**
+ Electrical Engineering degree (Bachelor's or higher) with a concentration in power systems required.
+ 0-3 years of experience in high voltage power system studies. *Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
+ Knowledge of the components of electrical power transmission systems such as transformers and converters.
+ Preferred experience with high voltage short-circuit studies, and system interaction studies of high-voltage equipment with the electrical transmission grid.
+ Excellent communication skills and ambition to work in a multi-cultural international engineering team.
