Power Systems Automation Engineer

Position Title: Power Systems Automation Engineer

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 Hours/Week

Summary of Duties: Develop, implement, configure, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and commissioning of the power transmission and distribution substation systems. Interact and support customers in troubleshooting and commissioning support as well as provide technical back-office support for the sales/proposal organization. Configure and test RTUs/PLCs for protection and controls schemes of Medium and High Voltage substations systems. Develop new application solutions with IEC61850 or other communication protocols relevant in the energy automation field. Design and/or support elaboration of Control Logic Diagrams, System Network Architecture, Signal Lists, Functional Design Specifications documents during design phase of the project. Prepare (FAT) Factory Acceptance Test procedures & testing environments for customer projects. Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including trouble shooting and commissioning support. Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.

Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical

Engineering, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered, or as a Solution Engineer, or an acceptable alternate occupation. The position requires three (3) years of experience with Power Systems in substations automation field. The position requires experience in the following: Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Medium or High Voltage substations systems; Factory and Site testing experience in automation and control systems; Knowledge of communication network technologies, including design, configuration, and troubleshooting of level 2 and level 3 networks including communication protocols such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE), DNP3.0, Modbus, IEC104, and Profinet; Develop, design, and test Human Machine Interface systems (HMI) and SCADA systems; Experience configuring and testing Siemens A8000 as Remote Terminal Units (RTU), SIMATIC PLC S7-1200/300 and Ruggedcom switches or Routers or equivalent; Knowledge of the following products and associated software packages: Device Manager, SICAM Toolbox II, Siemens SICAM PAS, and SICAM SCC/WINCC or equivalent; Prepare and perform Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures & testing environments for customer projects; Drafting abilities by using Microsoft Visio; and Knowledge of automation logic applied on Terminal Remote Unit (RTU), protection relays, SIMATIC PLC for electrical power systems. Skills and experience can be gained pre- or post-Bachelor's degree.
