Job Summary Duties – In general, powerline technicians: + Operate heavy equipment including ariel booms, diggers, backhoes, track hoe, skid steers and tension stringing equipment. + Mount and secure upgrading trusses at heights from bucket using air and hydraulic tools. + Re secure and move underground facilities on pole and preform work in and around underground facilities. + Detach and re attach communication cables to allow for work to be performed. Working Conditions – + Work outdoors and travel to various work sites so travelling often is part of the workday. Periods away from home base. + The work may be strenuous and require carrying, reaching, and frequent lifting of over 25 kilograms. Getting to power lines requires climbing poles or towers, working from a bucket attached to an aerial lift boom, or entering confined spaces such as manholes and underground vaults. + Standard 50-hour week is normal, possible variances due to need per location. + Power lines may be de-energized and grounded, or they may remain energized while power linemen are working. Skills & Qualifications – + Red seal certification + Familiarity with communications services + Class 1 Drivers Licenses + Strength and stamina + Coordination and manual dexterity + Mechanical aptitude + Comfort with heights + The ability to work in a team + Adaptability to changing tasks and locations
