About the Role
As a Powerline Technician - Line at ATCO Electric, you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and constructing electrical transmission and distribution lines. Your work ensures reliable electricity supply to communities and businesses. Safety protocols and preventive maintenance are key aspects of this role. Additionally, as a journeyperson, you’ll assist in developing PLT Apprentices and other new employees.
What You’ll Do:
Construct, operate, and maintain overhead and underground power lines, substations, and related equipment. Install and maintain street lighting systems, adhering to quality and safety standards. Execute system switching, in line with Electrical Operations Standards. Supervise contracted labor effectively, ensuring compliance and quality. Administer maintenance programs and system inspections, while maintaining comprehensive documentation. Collaborate with electrical technicians for equipment installation and maintenance. Diagnose and troubleshoot system faults, offering both immediate and long-term solutions. Handle emergency response and standby duties efficiently. Coordinate outages and execute switching orders with precision. Respond to customer service requests promptly and professionally. Participate in company-sponsored community relations activities. Maintain and operate company vehicles and equipment responsibly. Uphold stringent safety and environmental regulations. Lead, coach, and mentor apprentices and colleagues as required. Engage in continuous personal and professional development.What We’re looking for:
High school diploma or equivalent Valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate. Valid or eligibility for Interprovincial Red Seal. Demonstrated knowledge of live line techniques using bare hand, sticks and 25kv rubber glove work achieved through live line training is preferred. Valid Class 5 vehicle operator's license; ability to obtain Class 1 or Class 3 Operator's License. Valid First Aid Certificate. Previous on-call and troubleshooting experience preferred. Basic computer skills are an asset.An expectation of the Powerline Technician line position is to sometimes provide after-hours stand-by duties. As such, you will be required to maintain a residence within the established service point boundary for Fort McMurray, AB.
