Powertrain Motor Design Engineer

The Powertrain Motor Design Engineer is responsible for the generation of EV motor designs, owning design direction from concept through high volume production.  

You'll have…

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience  2+ years of experience designing, developing, and testing mechanical components/systems Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA preferred) An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team  Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and prototyping powertrain systems  Strong engineering fundamentals, and ability to apply broadly to vehicle systems and manufacturing processes Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

 

Even better, you may have…

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering  5+ years of experience in automotive or related high volume manufacturing field  High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modelling practices and methodologies  Experience in stampings, wire forming, welding and other high-volume processes  Working knowledge of HV motor insulation systems and materials  FEA (technical and/or thermal) modelling experience  Expert in GD&T and DFM, especially for high volume products  Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.  A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement

What you'll do…

Spearhead the design of next generation electric motor mechanical components. Optimize performance and cost, including leading the development of new designs and exploring novel materials and manufacturing techniques. Build and test prototypes. Transform designs from concept to reality, validating design choices through testing and iterative improvements.  Own the entire product lifecycle. Drive electric motor development from initial concept and prototyping to validation testing and successful production launch. Collaborate with top engineering talent. Partner with electromagnetic, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure designs are optimized for high-volume manufacturing and meet the highest quality standards. Lead design reviews. Provide technical guidance with the electric motor design team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.  Manage supplier relationships, engage with key suppliers, incorporate key DFM feedback to ensure timely delivery of components and adherence to quality standards. Champion key design requirements. Own critical requirements, translate them into actionable design specifications and 2D prints.
