Nelson Mullins, an Am Law 100 Law Firm, is seeking a forward-thinking Practice Innovation Consultant to join our team in Columbia, South Carolina or Charlotte, North Carolina. In this role, you will work closely with attorneys to identify, evaluate, implement, and market cutting-edge AI tools and workflow strategies that enhance the firm's discovery processes. Your expertise will drive the adoption of technology solutions that streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and reduce costs for both the firm and its clients. This is an exciting opportunity for a consultant with experience in legal technology and process optimization to make a significant impact within the firm.

A Day in the Life

As a Practice Innovation Consultant, you will play a key role in the following functions:

 

Technology Identification & Procurement: Work with the legal team and technologists to understand needs and opportunities for automation and AI-driven solutions. Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies that align with the firm's strategic goals. Manage the procurement process and oversee the integration of AI tools into the firm’s discovery practice.

 

Workflow Strategy & Optimization: Design and implement workflow strategies that leverage AI tools to streamline the discovery process, reduce manual work, and improve accuracy. Work directly with attorneys to ensure that workflows align with legal practices and client expectations.

 

Pilots & Testing: Design and oversee pilot groups, testing, and quality assurance of AI tools to ensure they meet the firm’s standards. Define scope, requirements, timeline, budget, and success criteria. Troubleshoot issues, gather feedback, and make recommendations to legal team.

 

Pricing Strategy and ROI: Collaborate with attorneys and firm management to develop pricing models for clients that reflect the efficiencies gained through AI-driven discovery processes, helping the firm remain competitive and profitable.

 

Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess the effectiveness of AI tools and workflows post-implementation. Gather feedback from attorneys and clients to identify areas for further enhancement and ensure the firm remains at the forefront of innovation.

 

Internal and External Marketing: Contribute to the firm’s innovation strategy and roadmap. Promote a culture of innovation within the firm by sharing insights and best practices. Identify opportunities for externally marketing firm’s technological advancements.

We Know You

You have at least 5 years of experience in e-discovery or legal technology, process optimization, or consulting. Strong background in developing or implementing AI tools in legal discovery or document review processes is highly desirable. Bachelor's degree is required and a JD or LLM is preferred.
