Practicum Student

Job Description:

Essential Job Functions: 

Practicum Intern Students will be provided with a written list of duties to include specific POS services they provide.  These students may be assigned a limited caseload based on background and prior experience.

Students will adhere to both professional conduct and standards and will be informed of confidentiality and ethical issues during orientation.

Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor, Program Director, Vice President, and/or Executive Team members.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of confidentiality laws governing substance abuse and mental health treatment.

Ability to establish rapport with client population.

Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively both verbally and written to produce clear and concise reports.

Knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.

Knowledge of the problems encountered by persons with mental illness and/or substance use disorders residing in the community and how to access the various community resources available.

Knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

Knowledge of training techniques and practices used in a mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment setting.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

Eligibility for a Practicum/Intern Student includes a master’s program or above status if providing counseling services and a final year bachelor’s student if providing case management and community support work.

None

Practicum Requirements:

Practicum/Intern Students must provide to the agency a letter from their academic advisor attesting to their qualifications and eligibility for the practicum / internship.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
