Under the general supervision of the designated supervisor (depending on the location) and in collaboration with a clinical overseer, where applicable, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of high quality and safe clinical care. S/he will assist with patient care and operational flow by providing guidance to other clinical team members and performing clerical and clinical duties as needed within the scope of their training and applicable to the kind of practice and patient population.

The MA II will perform all of the duties of a medical assistance as well as acting as a team lead resolving issues and triaging problems, an EPIC expert, a mentor/preceptor to other MAs as well as assisting the practice with special projects and additional quality initiatives. A Medical Assistant organizes work to enhance patient satisfaction and provider efficiency. S/he will collaborate with providers for daily needs/schedule coordination, by reviewing provider schedule and anticipating patient, provider and appointment needs at the time of the patient visit, keep visits running on time, communicate delays with patients, manage same-day schedule additions, ensure exam rooms are properly supplied and provide support for patient forms completion. The MA II is responsible for developing, following and sustaining all workflows, standard work, policies, and procedures.

The performance of the Medical Assistant in the delivery of empathetic and efficient care and service will have a direct impact on our overall patient satisfaction.

The Medical Assistant works in collaboration with the physician(s), other health care provider(s), other ambulatory support staff within the department and with other disciplines to deliver patient care and with the department’s leadership to improve the overall medical assisting operations.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

•    Advanced Epic Knowledge
    o    Acts as first point of contact for basic Epic related questions from Medical Assistants and Clinical Staff 
    o    Assists with troubleshooting Epic related issues using documented best practices. 
•    Acts as a first-level practice resource, or “go to” person, for day-to-day process questions and new practice initiatives
    o    Proactively problem solves basic issues with the ability to understand, listen, and solve or escalate any issues before they become more serious.
    o    Accepts assignments/projects that maintain regulatory compliance.
    o    Accepts assignments/projects that improve QI processes.
•    Precepts new Medical Assistants
    o    Facilitates orientation, including scheduling of orientation activities and tracking that specific orientation activities were completed.
    o    Mentors and train new staff on practice policies and procedures


As a Medical Assistant II this position performs all functions and responsibilities as specified below as well as mentors and coaches other Medical Assistants to assist them in meeting Medical Assistant functions and performance expectations.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 
High School Diploma or equivalent required

Licensure, Certification, Registration: 
None

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:   
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to communicate with patients, family members, physicians and other health care providers, as well as other colleagues.  Knowledge of medical terminology.  Must possess strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills to ensure patient’s needs are met and to optimize practice workflow.   Must possess advanced computer skills to input and retrieve clinical information, as well as patient registration and appointment information.  Utilizes critical thinking and good judgement in performance of tasks.  Must possess good organizational skills and the ability to multitask and to prioritize daily assignments to ensure smooth workflow.    

Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant with a minimum of one (1) year as a Medical Assistant at Lahey
