Position Description
Responsible for ensuring that all pre-anesthesia requirements are fulfilled for each procedure patient Acts as an advocate to assist patients/families/caregivers throughout the pre-procedure process Applies the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s pre-anesthesia clearance/preparedness Provides education and support to the procedure patient respective to their current health state/plan of care Resource to ensure that the pre-anesthesia requirements are completed Provides support and direction to procedure schedulers, surgeon’s office, and OR schedulers Serves as a liaison with the physician office, PCP, DHI, ASC, Pre-Op, and MOR Maintains knowledge of all tests, medications, and possible contraindications associated with anesthesia Completion of the Pre-Op checklist >/= 72 hours prior to procedure date (excluding emergent/add-on cases) Performs ROS, medication reconciliation, reviews health history and surgical history on all patients having surgery with anesthesia sedation for the providers prior to the HandP,this is done either on phone or in person Performs the Pre-Day calls to patients having procedure (includes procedure report time, review of medications to take in AM following anesthesia policy and answer any questions) Reinforces diet/bowel preps with patients at Pre-Day call Reinforces NS prep instructions with patients at Pre-Day call Works with anesthesia and physician offices in obtaining additional test/forms, teaching on medication, informing pts of lab/test results, assisting pts with ordering additional tests as deemed by providers for surgical clearancePosition Requirements
REQUIRED:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as an RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as an RN post-orientation or post-residency training. Certified in the American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS). Other REQUIRED cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc.). Assists in age-appropriate preparation, procedure, and recovery for patients undergoing a GI/Pulmonary endoscopy procedure on an inpatient or outpatient basis.PREFERRED:
BSN degree preferred National Certification in Clinical Specialty preferred Other preferred RN attributes are unit-specific.Service Area Overview
