The ‘Prep Operator’ job classification oversees the process of dehulling, conditioning, and flaking soybeans. The job classification of ‘Prep Operator’ requires the ability to safely and efficiently perform the following:
GENERAL DUTIESAdheres to all safety and process requirements.Participates actively in safety programs and safety duties as required.Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by complying with all department and plant safety policies regarding the use of hard hats, hearing protection, safety glasses and other personal protective equipment.Maintains awareness and adheres to all GMP, FDA, Orthodox Union and employer standards and guidelines for food safety.Maintains awareness and adheres to all EPA and employer standards and guidelines regarding environmental protection.Maintains awareness and adheres to all OSHA and employer standards and guidelines.Works in teams by maintaining good communication and cooperation with other department operators and management in order to achieve efficient production processes in all areas. Work for long periods of time in all weather conditions (heat, cold, dust, etc.)SPECIFIC DUTIESOversee the heating, cracking, dehulling, and flaking processes.Oversee multiple dust collection systems, ensuring permitted operating parameters are being met.Operate the processing equipment from a computer interface and/or field controls.Ensure product is not contaminated by following food safety protocolsAdjust process equipment to maintain desired operating conditions.Perform general housekeeping.Assist with general, light-duty maintenance.Maintain a quality product by making changes as needed.SKILLS REQUIREDAble to maintain prompt and regular attendanceAble to follow directions and established routinesAble to concentrate, memorize, and recallAble to problem solve and troubleshootAble to plan and organize activities or projectsAble to work independently with appropriate judgementAble to read, write, and comprehend numbers and wordsAble to communicate effectively to peers and superiorsAble to exhibit professionalism and maintain a respectful attitudeAble to work overtime, weekends, and call-ins when neededAble to work rotating shiftsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting/Carrying:Able to lift and/or carry up to 10 lbs from waist to shoulder height on a frequent basisAble to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to shoulder height on an occasional basisAssistance can be provided as necessary.Push/Pull:Able to push/pull up to 35 lbs on an occasional basisAssistance can be provided as necessary.Sitting/Standing/Walking:Able to sit up to a maximum of 8-12 hours each day. Able to stand up to a maximum of 8-12 hours each day.Able to walk up to a maximum of 8-12 hours each day.Able to squat, kneel, and bend at waist.Able to climb stairs and ladders.Able to work at elevated heights.Able to work in a confined space.The requirements listed above are not intended to be a wholly inclusive list.
