Eurofins Environment Testing Australia is an Environmental testing network of fully accredited laboratories. With a staff of over 300 our laboratories are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and with Client Service Offices located in Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle and Wollongong. We also operate field sampling services out of Melbourne and Sydney. We specialise in all areas of Environmental analysis, including Contaminated Soil, Sludge, Sediments, Leachate, Soil Vapour, Trade Waste Effluents, Sewage Effluents, Stack Emissions, Work Place Air, Ambient Air, Dust, Drinking Water, Surface Water run off, River & Stream Monitoring, Seawater, and Groundwater. 

Job DescriptionFull time position based in Dandenong South, VIC.Shift times either Monday - Friday,  8pm – 4am, 2pm – 10pm, 9am – 5pm. An extra 1.5% superannuation paid on top of National standard rate.

Reporting to the Team Leader, a prep technician will be primarily responsible for sample preparation and involved in some analysis and other lab duties.

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

Receive and sort water samples, assign tests in accordance with the ELVIS database and prepare batch sheets on Microsoft Excel. Sort soil samples (delivered with tests already assigned).Extract analytes from water/soil samples as directed by the Standard Operating Procedures.Combine water extractions, concentrate the solution and vial in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Vial soil extractions (without concentration) in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.Ensure traceabilty of samples prepeared or vialed.Perform quality control tests.Priorities samples accordingly as per turn around times (urgent samples).Treat quarantine samples in accordance with quarantine procedures as directed by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) approved representative.Discard waste in accordance with safety and environmental considerations.Replenish consumable items (eg pipettes, vials, solvents).Perform calibrations of POVAs such as syringes, steppers and solvent dispensers and other lab equipment.Keep the laboratory clean and in order.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will obtain the following:

 A person performing the duties listed in this document does not need to have a science degree but must have a good understanding of chemistry and mathematics (Year 11).No minimum experience is required however, the requirements listed in the training document must be met.General preference and comfort in technical environments.Ability to build and structure business plans, submissions and initiatives.Desire to continually learn and improve.An entrepreneurial spirit, with an eagerness to take the next step.Ability to be a hands-on hard worker and a ‘doer’ with a common sense approach.Strategic thinking mindset.
