Successful candidates have a background in operational management of rehab services/networks, along with experience at a senior executive-level and a master’s degree in a related field. This position is based in UPMC’s headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The President provides leadership to those individuals responsible for the clinical operations of the Rehab Network. The President works very closely with the Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation/Director of the Rehabilitation Institute and Medical Director of the Rehab Network and collaboratively sets strategic direction and goals. Through emphasis on access, quality, efficiency and best practices, the President will ensure that clinical services are delivered with a best of class culture across our multiple, complex, and diverse Rehab locations. The President, UPMC Rehabilitation Network provides executive oversight of UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and Concentra relationships.
Responsibilities:
Carries out system initiatives for the Health Services Division. Ensures that the Rehab Network meets or exceeds JCAHO/CARF or other appropriate standards. Assures all operations of the Rehab Network functions efficiently and effectively in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures and legal/regulatory pronouncements. Collaborates with hospital Presidents, recommends, develops and updates strategic, long-range plans to support the philosophy and goals of the Rehabilitation Institute network and needs of the community. Ensure consistency of the brand across all UPMC locations. Evaluates and implements new models and settings of care for feasibility, quality, and profitability. Interfaces as appropriate with payors, including but not limited to UPMC Health Plan, to evaluate value based care initiatives and negotiate appropriate reimbursement structures. Remains current on cutting edge technology and delivery models to evaluate incorporation into clinical practice as appropriate. Enhance visibility of the services provided to benefit hospital and outpatient operations. Continue the effort to streamline the service line’s management structure and decision-making processes (including goal setting, communications and measurement of performance). Oversees human resources functions specific to recruitment, interviewing, hiring performance management and disciplinary actions within their scope of responsibilities. Responsible for continuous quality care, access and customer service improvement while enhancing profitability. Represents the programs, services and achievements of the service line in the community, the media and government. Develops strong working relationships with colleagues and referral sources across UPMC and in the community. Enhances and builds the morale of the professional, administrative, and other employees in the service line through the development and maintenance of trust with the staff. Ensure that the Rehab Network is properly organized and managed by directing subordinate directors to carry out the operations. Develop policies and procedures to adequately support the goals and objectives of the Rehab Network. Assist the Vice President of Health Services Division in implementing the management plan within UPMC. Assist the President and Chair of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation/Director of the Rehabilitation Institute in addressing Medical Staff concerns. Coordinates and handles special projects on behalf of the Vice President of Health Services Division. Demonstrates an active commitment to a culture of safety through activities such as actively encouraging participation in measurement surveys and developing action plans to continuously improve the culture. Ensure the provision of affordable rehabilitation health care services by overseeing the acquisition, utilization and organization of available resources (human, financial and physical) and the development of quality, safe, cost-effective techniques and practices. Promoting the integration of research to assure state of the art clinical practice. In collaboration with the Director of the Rehabilitation Institute, evaluate and implement clinical trials that are advantageous to the Rehab Network. Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective medical staff relationships, proactive support for physician development and active involvement with physicians and management decision-making. Ensures that the key constituents within the service line understand and support the benefits of the development of new programs and services that both link to the strategic plans of the system and contributions to the broader enterprise. Regularly meets and communicates with Medical, Operational, and Administrative Directors. Collaborates with Hospital Presidents and Chief Nursing Officers on inpatient needs. Maximizes the ability of patients and referring physicians to access all care locations, continue to help build and maintain patient and referral flow.
