Prepare rolls for printing and ensure ink and printing plates are ready for the Press Operator to use. Duties also include: keeping the area clean, assisting the Press Operator with changeovers, working in a safe manner, and obeying all safety rules.
WORK DEVICES:
Mops, knives, printing shafts, printing cylinders, printing plates, parts cleaning tank, air hose, operate ice blaster.
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
Perform all duties in a safe and orderly manner. Actively engaged, involved, and current in SBO process; Participate in safety meetings and safety tours. Ensure production of products consistent with established food safety, sanitation and quality standards. Observe and report any unsafe acts or conditions, notify individual and/or supervisor to prevent accidents. Check size and basis weight of rolls at the press. Make roll press ready. Dispose of outer wrap and scrap in proper place. Keep assigned area clean and orderly. Empty trash; Sweep floor. Assist other Press Helpers, as needed. Have cylinders made ready and ink at the press prior to changeover. Keep the press unwind loaded with paper at all times. Assist Press Operator with changeover. Return ink to ink room. Cut down make readies and delta scrap before the end of the shift. Clean printing plates before returning them to the mounting room. Help mounter in mounting room. Once qualified, instruct and train others. Manage workload as necessary to ensure production requirements are met. Communicate effectively with oncoming shift. Fulfill overtime requirements necessary to ensure production requirements are met. Assist in other areas or perform other duties, as assigned.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Basic mechanical background. Must have the skills necessary to perform technical tasks. Able to use hand properly and safely. Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. Demonstrated organizational skills and detail orientation. Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to follow verbal or written instructions. Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without accommodation. This includes: Walking or standing for extended periods of time, up to 12-hours; Lifting to 50lbs; Carrying to 30 lbs.; Lowering to 30 lbs. from a height of 4 feet; Lifting to 85 lbs. to height of 6 feet (2-person job); Visual acuity and depth perception; Working in various temperatures & humidity levels.
