Job DescriptionNREL has an opening for a Pressure Safety Inspector. This position will support the Pressure Safety Program within the Environment, Safety, Health, & Quality Office. This position will work directly with the Pressure Safety Program Leader to help meet program initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
Perform routine inspections of new and legacy pressure systems at NREL.Inspect procured pressure vessels, hardware, and components to verify part numbers and confirm quality assurance.Inspect the installation and fabrication of pressure systems to verify proper assembly.Install standardized manifolds and hardware in labs.Provide installation and maintenance assistance and expertise for pressure system work at NREL.Review pressure system design documentation for accuracy and adequacy.Familiarity with consensus code requirements (e.g., American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), ASME B31 Process Piping codes, etc.).Assist with in-class and hands-on pressure safety training.Assist with lab-wide assessments and audits.Review piping and instrumentation diagrams for pressure systems to verify compliance with the NREL pressure safety program.Serve as an active member on the NREL Pressure Safety and Design Review Panel.Lead meetings and communications with other Pressure Safety Inspectors at NREL.Collaborate with other members of ESH&Q to help improve safety at NREL..
Basic QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Extensive knowledge in specialized focused business support functions. A comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of business support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported. Advanced skills in applicable software packages and office equipment. Considerable project administration and business services skills. Broad knowledge of specific principles, procedures, and practices related to supported fields and disciplines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team and interpersonal skills.* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required QualificationsInnovative, solution-oriented, and creative thinking.Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence, and perform independently.Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite, email and ability to quickly learn database software applications.Ability to travel on occasion.Willing to pursue further learning opportunities related to pressure safety.Ability to learn and apply new codes and standards, including American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and B31 Process Piping Codes.Preferred QualificationsHigh School diploma plus 7 years related experience. AA plus 5 years’ related experience. Relevant experience or certification of comparable scope may be substituted for education. ASME accredited training for inspections and examinations.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: Specialist IV / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
