Prevent Recurrence PD Engineer

In this position... 

This position is an engineering role within EPE’s Quality Team that is responsible for identifying warranty issues and executing our formal problem-solving efforts focused on the prevention step of the 8D process.  The main focus of the position is to lead D&R teams through structured problem-solving techniques that interpret root cause analysis findings of solved problems and identify tangible actions that prevent the problems from reoccurring.  The role includes exposure to all aspects of the Electric Propulsion Product Development factory, with a direct impact on all of Ford’s Battery Electric and Hybrid vehicles.  The engineer will work directly with the EPE Campaign Prevention TS to apply the corporate 3x5-Why methodology to our quality problems and manage the completion of prevent recurrence activities in a timely manner.   

You'll have... 

Required Degree: B.S. in Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical

Experience in Design & Release Engineering, Program Management, and/or related Quality areas

Proficient and comfortable working with managing projects, using Excel and/or other programs

Experience in 8D problem-solving techniques; preferably related to automotive design and quality issues 

Interest and ability to learn new things and juggle multiple projects effectively

Demonstrated passion for the success of Ford and commitment to quality

Ability to lead small teams and run meetings effectively 

Able to work in Dearborn office setting regularly, consistent with organization’s expectations (currently a minimum of 3 days on-site each week) with flexibility to support additionally as-needed 

Minimal travel to surrounding Southeast Michigan Ford facilities

 

 

Even better, you may have…

Working knowledge in one or more of the following automotive engineering areas: fastener/joint engineering, casting, injection molded plastics, powertrain module function, calibration or controls, high voltage battery design/validation, air and coolant sealing engineering, general component or sub-system testing, design stack-up execution, prototype assembly, high volume production assembly, welding, engineering project delivery, new technology development, or related areas.

Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders 

Component Engineering experience with an aspect of High Voltage EV Propulsion

Previous exposure to executing durability validation plans and reporting results

Previous experience with Product Development engineering foundation documents (DFMEA, PFMEA, etc.)

Ability to analyze, organize, and present basic data

Knowledge of High Voltage Battery and related safety protocols is a plus

What you'll do...

Lead a consistent EPE prevent recurrence process, report to time-to-closure metrics, monitor emerging quality issues, and apply a thorough root cause analysis process 

Chair the high visibility Prevent Recurrence technical review forum (occurs every-other-week); This forum is used to directly report to the EPE Director and Corporate Quality Chief Engineer matched pair

Perform quality analysis and manage weekly report out on warranty issues on select High Voltage components

Analyze warranty claims and Triage for Top Issues for each of vehicle line

Review claims analysis with OPD and PVT Engineers to identify ICAs/PCAs to resolve select quality issues

Analyze warranty data metrics on a regular basis for select High Voltage components (R/1000 rates)

Identify critical cross-carline issues and confirm if the issues are systemic or special cause

Work cross-functionally with other HV Battery Components team members and FCSD to reduce warranty cost
