This role will be pivotal in engaging with internal stakeholders to understand their priorities and help achieve those priorities through innovative partnerships, programs, and technologies. Once initiatives have been identified, this role will work cross-functionally to prioritize and then ultimately develop strategies for high-impact opportunities. The ideal candidate will continuously survey and analyze key trends in the utility market to identify emerging opportunities and threats while collaborating with various departments to prioritize the key needs and challenges across the business.
**Essential Responsibilities**
+ Partner and collaborate with teammates and internal stakeholders across the business to understand their priorities and help achieve those priorities through innovative partnerships, programs, and technologies
+ Monitor and analyze key trends in the utility market to identify emerging opportunities and threats
+ Maintain and manage a comprehensive portfolio of strategic initiatives and innovation, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
+ Facilitate buy-in from key stakeholders for advancing high-impact frameworks and initiatives that are high-priority across the business
+ Lead cross-functional teams across the business to design and develop strategic frameworks that can be implemented across the organization
+ Ability to effectively communicate (written and orally) to build consensus around abstract and complex concepts
+ Ability to take full ownership of projects and lead them to successful delivery
**Education:**
+ 4-year bachelor’s degree required
+ Advanced degree is a plus
**Relevant Experience:**
+ 5+ years' experience in strategy development, business development, project management, or a related field within the utility field (hydro, electric, nuclear, renewables) is required
+ Ideal candidate will have experience working with an investor-owned utility, independent power producer, or electric-cooperative.
+ A strong understanding of emerging energy solutions as well as utility functions and processes
+ Experience leading cross-functional teams and efforts within a large-scale, complex, and matrixed organization
+ Proven experience successfully leading new initiatives and partnering with other functional teams across an organization to develop strategy
+ Experience with the external innovation ecosystem (venture firms, accelerators, clean-tech startups, etc.) and a proven track record of developing successful relationships with external partners
+ A results-oriented self-starter, with strong analytical, business planning, and execution skills
+ Zeal for technology innovation, business transformation, and strategy development
+ Understanding of utility operations at Southern Company or other large, regulated entities
+ Sound judgment skills to understand priority projects and their impact to the organization’s goals
+ Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
